Sod purchase

Welcome. And...remember to get the water on that sod a half hour after it's down, and water it a good inch that day; then daily for 2 weeks. Yes, that is a must. Make sure the edges are down firmly and get water, make sure your sprinkler "overlaps" the sod. DON'T dump fertilizer on it like some say to do; it's already stressed, and it will just promote non-beneficial shallow root growth. Let us know how it goes...

I'm thinking more of a "true' garden center...one that deal in just flowers/shrubs, trees,, like Bachmans, Sargents, etc. They'll have the good sod, not the stuff that places like the box stores sell. Black dirt (sterilized!) prep is a good idea, so is forking/loosening the clay soil, and making sure it's got a lot of water IN it before rolling the sod. (and, while I think of it, if you can get a barrel roller, roll that over the sod after laying it) I see you have a Schulte's up by you; that would be where to go. That should get ya started...:)

If you can't get it within a day or two of it being cut I would suggest that you go with seed instead.  Spend some time learning what type of seed will work in the area you intend to plant and then work up the soil.  If you have heavy clay you may want to put some pelletized gypsum down and mix it in.  Might help to sprinkle some sphagnum moss over the area once you put the seed down.  It helps hold the moisture in to aid in germination.
