mojoputter
Then there is my plan. Every year or so, I put on a bag or two of Fleet Farm lawn fertilizer in the spring. I mix up some stuff in the sprayer and try to keep the thistles and some of the dandelions down. Then I go fishing. Too much fertilizer and water makes the grass need mowing way too often. I'm with Del, the more you water and fertilize the more the SH!T grows, when are they going to invent grass that turns green but does not grow!! otterman91105
th64, when i overseed i always water steady for a couple weeks makes it start to grow faster and get established. Fertilzing also helps.
th64
For me to water my lawn I have to move my sprinklers about 5x- so that would be every day for 2 weeks-nope.I do deep watering in dry hot conditions, or one spot for a patch.

Yea it sucks I have done it but you have to keep it wet. I have an acre of grass that I aerated an over-seeded 2 falls ago and moved sprinklers around like that. It was worth it in the end though it turned out great.
fishersofmen
As far as those wondering about seeding in the spring and still being able to put down pre-emergent, I seeded a big chunk of my front yard 2 weeks ago it is starting to come up good now. Maybe next week I will put down some fert with pre-emergent still plenty of time and all is well.
otterman91105
Yea its a lot easier when you have irrigation. I had to drag a house around for a few years it sucks even after a few days in a row. I hear you.

Have you looked into tractor sprinklers? I picked up a couple at a garage sale a couple years ago and they work great. I would like an irrigation system but need to fund a couple other projects before that happens so the tractors will do the job for now. Set it up, turn on the water, and watch it work. They even have a little ramp that you affix to the hose which shuts off the sprinkler when it reaches the end of the line so you don't have to babysit it. Tom7227
The tractors are great but they only will pull a limited amount of hose. Once it gets to be too much the thing stops the digs in. Not a big deal but you have to check it probably every 2 hours or so. Works well on an established lawn but I don't think they would work well on bare ground while seeding.
