Bass addiction for the winter

Granny

Recommended Posts

Now that I am in the later stages of my first year of Bass addiction, I start to wonder what am I going to do all winter? I know there are many days of Bass fishing left, but what do you guys do when the Bass season closes?........Beside restock and get ready for the next years Bass opener. I don't think B.A.S.S. magazine and PS2 Bass games will tide me over.

One thing some of of mentioned doing was going to Gameworks in downtown mpls and doing the bass fishing game down there all night - have an electronic bass tourney! LOL! As several of us put it last year - we had a bad case of the Bass Shakes - a disease that strikes all soft water bass junkies every year about late October!

I usually read every bass magazine out there and and watch old reruns of Bill Dance wink.gif... Although this year may be different, my bro in-law and one of my wife's closest friends just moved to Springfield, MO for college and we are already planning several trips down there this winter. Bass Pro here I come!!

Oh yeah - and save up as many brownie points as possible to use during the regular season grin.gif!!!

every Sat. and Sun. am you can watch a fishing related program from about 6am to noon... while you do that you can reorganize your tackle box (which i did 5 times last winter)

i am thinking about tyeing my own jigs this winter (thanks to Exude for the idea)

it will be a long cold winter i'm sure. we could talk to the DNR about opening bass season early for just us this next year. smile.gif

Granny,

I don't know if you're into ice fishing or not, but catching pike (and the occassional bass) through the ice is fun.

Last winter a buddy of mine invited me on a little tip up outing on a late winter afteroon, right before the season closed.

We had 7 guys, 14 tipups, two coolers of beer, and one of those caged fire pits. Just pick a prime pike area and set the tip ups out in a grid covering various depths and with different bait (i.e. suckers, shiners, etc.)

Then you all huddle around the fire, tell stories, drink beer and wait for flags to go up. You take turns pulling the fish in, it's a blast! We fished for about 6 hours and had over 50 flags and landed about 30 pike and 3 bass. Even if you don't get that many flags, it's still fun to stand around and talk.

Just an idea.

Yea, I do the ice fishing thing but right now it just doesn't sound too fun. Maybe when the lakes freeze up I will get into the hard water mood. We bought a nice big drop down ice house this year so I plan on doing a little more ice fishing.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
