2007 Ford Escape won't start

Recommended Posts

I drove to the mailbox one day, came back to the house, shut it off. Went out 30minutes later no go. Threw the charger on it for a while and it started. Ran it for half-hour and shut it dow. Next day deader than a doornail. I pulled the battery and brought it in where it's warm, threw the charger on it again, ten minutes and it says full charge. Could it be the starter or alternator?

The fact that it is starting after charging indicates that the starter is o.k.

Checking voltage at the battery with the engine running will tell you that the alternator is working. You should see more than 14.0 volts.

Batteries can and do go bad just like a light bulb, fine one minute, dead the next. If the battery is more than 5 years old it isl ready to be replaced. If it says everstart or energizer you got lucky to make it as long as you did.

You can have the battery tested just about anywhere that sells them. I suspect a new battery, based on your description, will take care of you problem.

Other than a battery issue, which sounds likely, get it to Automotive Electric in GR. Honest and reliable. I spend a lot of time near GR, about 20 miles north, and they are my go-to place for any car issues.

I bought a new battery but haven't put it in yet. I have had the battery since 2009, so I am thinking that was it.I did do some reading and watched some video's about parasitic battery drain. I have to take it in to have brakes done and will have them run a check on the system. I really appreciate the feedback and will post any updates.
