bASS_BLASTER
Looking to mount a permanent GPS unit 7"+ screen for both atv/snowmobile trails and lake for ice fishing. Such a unit exist?
MN Mike
You might have to look and see what maps are available for ATV / Snowmobile trails, thats probably going to limit what type of GPS device you are looking at.My guess that you would be looking at mounting up some type of tablet on your vehicle but I highly doubt those devices are going to handle the environmental conditions your are going to throw at them in the winter on your snowmobile. The State of MN made a GPS file you could download for Garmin devices that showed ATV and Snowmobile trails but with you wanting a 7+ inch screen, you would have to look at the NUVI or an expensive Garmin Chartplotter to get what you want. Daylight visibility on a NUVI is going to suck in direct sunlight.Theres a site out there call gpsfiledepot that has a lot of OHV maps to download to a GPS but that's all gear towards Garmin products. Not sure if this info helps or not.Mike
huntercj
I mounted a lowrance hds 7 on my snowmobile this fall so far it works great on the lake. I don't think it will show snowmobile or atv trails.
bASS_BLASTER
Maybe I'm expecting too much or just dreaming but I'm looking for a big screen GPS unit that will have an overlay map of lake depths and trails without having to switch options. I don't mind having two chips or download terrain & trails as long as they both work simultaneously. I rather have a 2 in 1 unit vs having 2 separate units. Thanks for your reply, I will look at Garmin.

elusivecrappiecatcher
I mounted my HDS 7 to the handlebars of my Rubicon with a 1.5 ram mount ball. Works awesome! I have my lowrance lake map chip in it so it shows all contours just like the OP was looking for. I would go that route. The only downfall is it will NOT show ATV and snowmobile trails. CaptainMusky
I believe the lowrance insight that comes loaded on many of the units has snowmobile trails. I swear I remember seeing them but the lake mapping sucks so I use a map chip.

ZachD
I believe the Garmin Nuvi supports lake maps and the dnr snowmobile trails I do not know how well that will hold up but if a 4 inch screen is enough the Garmin Montana is a solid device
