walleye 4 me
have an 8" strikemaster chipper style auger (single blade). The cover and that one little rubber strap sucks. Falls off easily and worried when I am transporting it in my flip over house the cover will come off and cut the tarp. I see they make a better cover for the Lazer (2 blade) style that snaps on then you push it off with your foot but havent seen an alternative for the chipper. Any suggestions? Naturboy
When I used a cover with a strap that broke I took a bungee cord cut the hooks off and put a knot on each end and that worked great. also I didn't loose another cover since. now I use the Strike Master magnet system. Scott O.
I'd highly recommend checking out the Cold Snap auger covers from Cold Snap Outdoors (coldsnapoutdoors.com). These covers are probably the best for staying on your auger and they have a wide range of models covered, including Strikemaster. Others have recommended this cover as well. I've had one for my Jiffy for 4 years now and it will not come off no matter what I hit or bounced it off on, but it comes off easily with my foot and pops back on even easier. Definitely give it a look.
Tony Mariotti
Do yourself a favor and just buy a coldsnap cover for your auger. You will never have the problems again!
walleye 4 me
I looked on there HSOforum and I see they make them for the SM lazer but I dont see the SM chipper which is what I have.
walleye 4 me
I ordered the magnet set from ice hogger so we will see how they work. I am a bit skeptical though...
Scott O.
I'm pretty sure that the Cold Snap cover will fit your SM chipper style, but if you have any concerns about it, I'd recommend giving them a call (605-360-8262) or send them an email through their homepage. They're good about getting back to ya and they could tell you for sure if it would work.
uffdapete
I found an Otter auger shield at a garage sale and that was the end of using covers forever. Protects everything else in your sled, vehicle or whatever from the auger and blades. IMO the auger is easier to remove from the shield than any cover simply cause you're already holding the auger handles.
Trump34
I looked on there HSOforum and I see they make them for the SM lazer but I dont see the SM chipper which is what I have. The chipper bit for the SM is 1/4 inch larger than the lazer and the center spike is also bigger on the chipper. Maybe it will work... have you emailed coldsnap? walleye 4 me
Yep, and they replied within a few minutes but unfortunately they do not make a cover for my style of auger. The chipper bit for the SM is 1/4 inch larger than the lazer and the center spike is also bigger on the chipper. Maybe it will work... have you emailed coldsnap?
Scott O.
I'm sorry to hear that Cold Snap doesn't make one for the chipper-style. I was pretty confident it would work. At least they got back to you quickly about it.
MNice
Find a magnet from an old hard drive. Very strong, flat and has mounting screws, been using this setup for years without issues.
