Fowlmouth
I'm not a spearer, but I figured some of you spearing guys may have a good pickled northern recipe. Anyone care to share? Thanks!
SHAWSKI
Only advice I have on this is do some research. Northern pike host a specific parasite that is kind of tricky to kill. You have to take some extra precaution with extended freeze time before brine or using a hot pack method. Google it or search the MN DNR HSOforum, you will find some info there.
delcecchi
See the food and cooking section under Misc. Got to freeze it for several days, depending on temperature. I posted the info on the food and cooking board last year.

LunkerCity
I have heard things about parasites and freezing and such, but my family has been pickling fresh pike since long before my great grandmother and I don't think anyone has gotten any parasites... not to say you can't get something. Most of the time I pickle half or more is frozen to begin with, so I don't think it affects the texture or anything. I thought the tape worms and things in them weren't able to infect humans. Maybe I'll do some research before pickling next time.
Walleyehooker
You would think the salt and vinegar would take care of any parasites but I always say better safe than sorry. So I freeze mine to. Just the thought of tapeworms and from what I have heard you nearly have to poison yourself to get rid of them Ill keep freezing them.
