Extended Run Generator External Fuel Tank

Been contemplating getting on of these for my Honda EU2000. Just can't bring myself to spend $130 on it (despite the MAJOR convenience aspect) on such a simplistic looking device.

Two questions: 1. It seems to me the only non-standard piece is the machined cap you use on the gen, is that right and if so, can you buy those standalone?

2. Does anyone own the GenX version? (http://www.genxdirect.com/generator-bran...e-generac-2000/) Does it work with the Honda (only states it works with their Generac)? I could get it for $109 (there's a $10 coupon code in Outdoor News).

Haven't used one myself, but there are several "caps" only available on amazon.

contemplated going that route myself... but I can make it all night on a fill up... so It hasn't really been a big enough issue for me to shell out the dough.

I wonder if you could rig one up with the boat gas can just by making the connection on the generator the same setup as you have on your boat. Or buy a quick disconnect like is used here and put it on a hose for the boat gas can. Buying a new hose can't be that expensive. Although I am not all that sure that a quick disconnect on something that has gas going through it is that great an idea.

I assembled one on my own. All that I had to purchase was a cap, about 8 feet of fuel line, and a petcock(sp), so that I could shut off fuel flow when not in use. Mine works great. If you have a gas tank on hand that you could use, it shouldn't cost you more than $30-$40 dollars for your whole project.

I did buy the combo pack of a cap, mess free oil changing tube, and the magnetic dipstick. The oil changing tube makes life really easy if you change oil often. If you have any questions, let me know.

Bought the combo kit off Amazon. Went to the bait shop and bought the same fuel inlet as my kicker motor. Works perfect.

I own the GenXDirect.com (IPI Industries) kit for both my Honda eu2000 and my pair of Ryobi RYi2200 generators. Let me tell you why I went with their product.

Quality: these are made in Minnesota. The hoses are aircraft grade and don't freeze up. The quick connect couple is a German part from Parker, not cheap Chinese stuff. The cap was designed for easy operation while wearing gloves (talked to the company, the founder designed this system specifucally for ice-fishing) The company has been around since 2009 and everyone swears by it.

To top it off, the products from GenXDirect.com have a lifetime warranty, and when you call customer support you get a real person who knows their stuff.

I priced out the components to this system to make on my own, and if you build witb the same quality you end up spending that same $100+ and your time.

My humble opinion, this product is the best thing I've ever bought for my generators and GenXDirect.com was great to work with.
