The smallmouth bite is hot right now on the Mississippi River. Heres a pic from my last outing.

Ran into a bunch of these guys Saturday on the crow. Nothing huge but a couple spots had 10"-14" eyes just stacked. River was clear and shallow and full of leaves. All the fish were caught on jigs/minnow and jig/gulp. Tried a few cranks but couldn't get a bite. Buddy lost his anchor when he snagged what we're pretty sure was a tree root. He says he's done for the season . I on the other hand hope this perfect weather will stick around for a couple more weeks so I can try another stretch or 3 b4 the snow flys!

Good to see there's a good year of walleyes out there. Was concerned that the conditions may have hurt the fish the last two years. Hopefully that's not just one spot.

I'll just say wright county and we focused on deep holes/turns.

No real good riffles on this particular stretch.

Thanks Bryan. Have not had the best of luck this year for eyes so it felt real good to get into a nice little pack of 'em. And the river scenery don't get much better then right now also.

I don't know what it is about the gold/black Rapala, but that lure flat out catches fish. Especially in moving water.
