B-man715 Posted August 12, 2014 Share Posted August 12, 2014 While out in the woods today at work I saw a pile of these guys. Trying to get a pic of the stem and under the cap up too. The stem was brownish and the bottom of the cap was yellow (spongy, not gilled) and would stain dark brown when pushed on. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
pikestabber Posted August 13, 2014 Share Posted August 13, 2014 Wait for someone smarter than me to confirm, but that looks (and sounds like) a Chestnut Bolete. At least, that's what I came up with when I looked them up in my field guide. Supposedly a good edible, but there are too many that look too similar for me to take a chance. I chickened out, but I could have picked several (found under mature oak trees in a fairly open area).Here's an underside pic of one with staining...
