When do turkey's hatch?

Today I saw a hen and two poults eating gravel on the side of the freeway this morning... What surprised me wasn't the fact they were by the road but the poults were the size of a softball. All this rain caused a real late hatch? What do you guys think?

I saw the same thing this weekend. Drove from Northfield to Brainerd early saturday morning and saw three different hens with chicks. One by Elko, one by Eden Prairie and one just south of Brainerd. All three sets of chicks were in the tennis ball to softball size range.

Seems like these are at least a month later than usual.

I think most hatch mid-June. I believe many nests were lost because of the rain. You're probably right, a second or late hatch is most likely what you're seeing now.

On the same subject, today I saw a hen with a group of 7-8 poults cross the road today and they were about the size of a Pigeon. I was very surprised to see them that small this late considering we see Turkeys in that spot year around and I know there have been 2 different sets through there this year already.
