2010 50 hp yamaha

So me and the wife took the boat out for the second time this year. We had about a 3 mile ride to our fishing spot. Ran great for the first mile then it started to sputter and run real rough. It kinda vibrated and a little steam came out. Also the alarm went off and I stopped and let it idle for 10-15 seconds the alarm quit and was running fine again. Took off and ran fine for another half mile and did it again. Ended up doing that about every half mile to our spot. Did the same thing on the way back in.

Any ideas??

The motor is on a 2010 alumacraft classic 165. The motor is a 2010 50 hp Yamaha 2 stroke motor.

Have you checked the winter intake for debris? Flush it out good, then I'd consider replacing the impeller.

I agree. Water circulation/cooling problem. Damage to impeller highly likely. Do as suggested above.

The water stream out of the motor is really good. It is a nice and steady stream, but I am willing to try it and see if it fixes the problem. Thanks for the ideas.

At idle sometimes the stream is fine, its a 2010 I'm guessing ready for a lower unit job, seals/pump ect.

Some guys are replacing impellers now on a yearly schedule.

WAIT a minute! If there is a steady strong stream out of the engine then it appears the cooling system is functioning properly-the impeller is working as it should.

Something else going on here.
