Boomerang Tool

A lot of people jumped on here touting how well the Boomerang worked for cutting braid and how long they lasted. Mine lasted one month with moderate use so use caution on whether you need a $10 fingernail clipper.

An awesome tool to have anywhere in life (except on an airplane) is a simple box cutter and a supply of replacement razor blades. The thin stamped metal box cutters practically have no size, almost as thin as a credit card, and the good ones won't slip open accidentally and slice your pocket open. A box of 10 or a dozen will cost a couple bucks.

This is the tool I use for cutting braid. There's a reason that "razor sharp" is a saying, just cut the dang line with a sharp blade that is small and easy to pocket, and don't bother messing with reinventing the wheel.

Just my .02

I'm older but always carry a sharp pocket knife, always have, always will,Don't the young people carry them anymore? Don't need a special razor just my sharp pocket knife with the 2 inch blade. I use it daily.

I always carry a pocket knife but it still will not cut 20# or 80# braid like this tool does. And the razor blade you have to pull the line tight. With this tool it WAS great. You could cut any line with slack in the line. Now its not the same. It won't cut braid with slack I have to pull the line tight and I got mine a month ago too. Still cuts flouro great but that's not saying much.

I must admit I too gave in to the reviews on this site and bought a snip about 3-4 weeks ago. I use mostly fluorocarbon line but join it up to a 8-12 braid via uni knot. Initially this thing was Amazing! So sharp, no fraying you could literally snip 1/8 of an inch from the end of braid like it was a piece of hair.

I think I have probably cut the fluorocarbon approx. 100 times, braid 30ish. I also have a pair of rapala cheap scissors in the boat for those on my back deck. The snip only gets used by me.

This weekend the snip began fraying the line and requiring slight tension on the tag end to get it to cut completely. The cutting performance has dropped pretty quickly in my opinion. Not too different than a pair of cheap rapala or fiskars scissors.

I have to say, the convenience of the retractable cord has been amazing for me. I love having the tool in the same place all the time. I have it attached to the under side of my bike seat on the front deck. Just 24" from where I rig all my rods.

I am looking forward to their pliers (recently released at Icast) as I have been trying to figure out a way to attach a pliers to a retractable cord ever since I go this snip tool.

Regarding the cutting edge, I am not sure there is anything on the planet that will hold up to cutting material that is basically bullet proof. Hard to expect anything to do so. in this case I think the cost is what chaps my hide a bit.

I do appreciate the tool enough to add another rather than eliminate it. The initial performance was off the charts to me. Even if it levels off it will still be as good or maybe a bit better than most scissors. The convenience of having it in the exact place every time I need it is awesome.

I contacted their customer service and the response was very quick and positive. For that reason alone I will continue to buy their products.

Me too!! But holy cow, we fishermen seem to be suckers for everything. Like they say, most products catch fisherman not fish, but I .think some of these companies need to be called out and if they have a warranty then we should use it.

Until I got my Boomerangs, I was going through at least one, often two of the little Swiss Army knives every season at $15 a pop. If the Boomerangs last me a season, I'll be happy. The fact that they won't get lost should make them last more than one year though.

k so after thinking about this tool I am not interested in giving up the convenience of having it hanging in exactly the same place every time I need it. Instead I think I am actually going to buy 2 of the long nose version. The longer nose will provide more cutting surface, at least 3x's more based on the length compared to the standard.

Initially I was concerned the long nose would be a problem poking seats etc....but since it hangs from my pedestal seat it will never get in the way or be a problem. Perfect solution in my mind. I can continue to cut super lines and fluorocarbon and have the convenience the boomerang has spoiled me with.

I cant wait for their new retractable pliers too.
