Public land ownership by State

http://www.nrcm.org/documents/publiclandownership.pdf

WI ranks 18 for percentage of area owned by the Feds and State, MN ranks 17...IA ranks 49. The info on the linked page obviously doesn't equate to areas open to public hunting (I'd guess)

Of course there has to be conflicting information http://www.summitpost.org/public-and-private-land-percentages-by-us-states/186111

MN is 16, WI is 20 and IA is 47 on that one

Here's a page showing public hunting lands in various states http://www.backcountrychronicles.com/public-hunting-land/

And how is that a good thing for anyone? The only person that benefits is the hunter, because he doesn't have to do anything to see a deer. Meanwhile, the rest of the landowners are losing money hand over fist just so the hunters don't [PoorWordUsage] and moan that they've got to get off their duffs to see a deer.
Seems like a small price to pay for farmers and the immense environmental destruction they have caused in the SW and just about everywhere. The poor farmer losing money hand over fist talk makes me just roll my eyes. Sorry.

The DNR presentation to the SE stakeholders stated that there was just under $3 million in crop depredation in that part of the State. Agriculture grosses around $2 billion in that part of the State. $3 million out of $2 billion = insignificant. Crop damage around the rest of the State is negligible

Hunting and fishing license sales put money into a crop depredation abatement fund that farmers can utilize. We pay our way..

Pretty sure taxpayers are helping out the poor farmers who are losing money "hand over fist" too http://farm.ewg.org/region.php?fips=27000
