Temptest plus

Hi guys

Running a 150 4 stroke on a lund crossover. I am using a temptest plus 19 p prop. Great hole shot. At 20 tp 30 mph I am hearing it cavitate in a turn. Not a tight u turn but a fair turn. Will the vent hole plugs make a difference with this?

Thanks schubie.

If you are already planing, then no the vents won't do anything I am pretty sure. By then all the exhaust is leaving through the end of the prop. If you have it trimmed up too high at that slow speed, it could be causing it, but not sure how you have it trimmed. Are you seeing the rpms rise in the turn, while slowing down? Then you are truly cavitating, but if not then it might be just the sound and no foul... good luck.

Actually, the PVS venting can make a difference in the turns. It is very simple to test, just go to your dealer and buy a couple of solid plugs and a couple of small hole plugs. Put them in one at a time and see if the problem goes away.

I run a Tempest Plus and the sizes of the vent holes can make significant differences in performance.

Yes I see the rpms raise slightly. I am trimmed down as far as I can go. You can feel it regrip and rpms lower again. Kinda frustrating.

Are the plugs easy to replace?

Thanks for input.

I have read you guys saying how good jay is. Do I call and explain my set up and then send it to him? I will probably try the plugs for the went holes first but like some more options. Hate spending that kind of $ and not being happy.

Call him and tel him what boat/motor/prop combo you have. He will either tel you to stick with what you have, send it to him for some tweaking or suggest a better prop for your rig. He really knows his stuff and if he sends you a prop that dont work he will take it back, as long as its still in new shape, and get ya out something else that he thinks will work. He is almost always spot on with his info and suggestions though.

I had this issue with a Vengeance also. My boat would shudder through low speed turns as the prop grabbed then slipped then grabbed again, with the motor trimmed down. Had it modified by Soderblooms but haven't had a chance to try it yet with all this friggin high water. Maybe this weekend.

Jay's modifications are fast. Prop was out for less than a week.
