x1957x
My 2000-1 chev will turn over but will not start or even fire. I checked some fuses with no luck. It will however run if I consistantly pour gas down the plennum. As long as i keep pouring it in, it will keep running but just wont pump gas on its own. I, on the other hand do hear the fuel pump pumping when I turn the key on. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks
arctic_scrap1
Check the fuel pressure if you can. The pump running doesn't mean it's building enough pressure. I can't remember for sure but I think you need at least 45psi for those engines. If the pressure is good then start looking at your injectors and why they aren't opening. Jeremy airjer W
Check the fuel pressure if you can. The pump running doesn't mean it's building enough pressure. I can't remember for sure but I think you need at least 45psi for those engines. If the pressure is good then start looking at your injectors and why they aren't opening. The vortec engine uses a poppet (mechanical) style injector along with a solenoid style injector. The poppet requires a minimum of 50 psi to start and slightly less to run. Typically a fuel pump will put out roughly 55 to 60 psi and I would be suspicious of a pump that is only producing 50 - 53 psi. As little as 1 (one) psi below spec is enough for the poppet to no longer function and the engine will not start. Since yours will not stay running the fuel pump may be putting out far less that 50 psi. A good accurate gauge will help determine this. x1957x
Checked the pump and it only has 48 lb's of pressure which is well below what I need. Is there a place on line that a guy can order a new pump from that is cheaper than the 250 which I have been quoted already for the cheapest one.. Macgyver55
Don't buy anything but a delco pump! I assume you mean Delphi since they are the OEM.Cheapest I can get a Delphi is 190.19 and I get a pretty good discount so $250 retail isn't too bad.If you have the time to wait, you can find one on Amazon for 166.00 with free shipping.Double check the fitment to make sure I looked up the right model. It depends if you have the evap style or not. Pump
