Flipping switch?

Hi! Thinking about getting a new baitcaster that will be used for both bass fishing and with bottom bouncers. I have read that it is good to have such a reel with a flippin' switch for the bottom bouncers and, of course for bass flippin. However, when paging through the big C and BPS catalogs, I am hard pressed to find such reels. They seemed to be the big, popular thing a few years ago, but I am wondering why the drop in offerings and if any of you seasoned veterans in bass flippin' or in walleye bottom bouncer presentations use them at all? Any brands better than others or is it a matter of you get what you pay for? Thanks for any input!

You can get an Abu Garcia black or silver max with a flipping switch I believe. I had a flipping switch once and never used it bass fishing but did use it later for pulling bouncers although it wasn't necessary. I actually sold my flipping switch reel to get a better quality baitcaster. I would suggest picking the reel you want for bass fishing as any bait caster will work for pulling bouncers.

I have a abu silvermax. I believe the switch is most directed for flip or pitch which ever one is the one for when you pull out line hold it and kind of pendulum the lure into a spot while letting go of the line in your hand. Makes it easier to quickly just click the spool release and pull out line then just let go and it lift back into place lockig the spool again. Click flip click reel click flip click reel click flip click reel. Gets anoying after a while when you keep having to turn the handle to re-engage the spool release button.

Then again I never use it since I dont flip alot I just pitch it over and try to cushion the splash or screw it big splash. Im guessin they kind of got rid of the idea of more function because really. When you buy a car with more options things tend to break more my 07 very basic yaris is all crank windows manual locks manjal mirrors but it will never have issues because not much to break. No little tiny electric motors thingamamajigs with a million joints and connections. Abu tested that with the silvermax and black max makig them with flip switches and the black max had the push button lure hopper majig where lazy ppl can simply use one hand to push a button that spins the handle a little hopping your lure back on the bottom. Cool option but I do fine reaching my fingers over to the handle and givig it a quick spin. I will wait a few more years until they over complicate reels again thats when you tell your kids you know back then we actualy had to crank the handle to reel the line back in!

What is a flipping switch? Never heard the term before.

It's a mode where the button press is not permanent, but instead only freespools while you have your thumb on the button. You let go of the button, the normal gearing and drag re-engages. I don't know anything about bass fishing, but I do know that a flippin swich can come in handy when trolling bottom bouncer spinner rigs if you're constantly varying depth. It allows one handed operation for letting out another few feet of line here or there. Of course still requires two hands to crank up when it's shallower but at least you cut the two handed operation in half smile
