All around rod

Recommended Posts

I know with fishing of any kind it's nice to be able to set up a different rod for each type of presentation but if you could only go out with 1 musky rod what would it be for all types or an all around presentation? Length action weight etc?

Thanks!

Deet you are correct there, especially for shorter guys like the 5'9" variety - I have an 8 footer that works perfect for that situation. The 9 footer is doable - I have found working the tip at more of an angle helps the most.

No doubt 8'6" to 9' rods are the way to go for bucktails, rubber, and spinnerbaits. But for most other lures like gliders, twitchbaits, and topwaters I like a 7'6" to 8'.

I've used a 8' H St. Croix Premier and it's an awesome all around rod. It's a "Not the best at anything but good at everything" kind of rod. The 8' H St. Croix Mojo is the same blank but with a split grip and it's also a bit cheaper because it's made out of the country.

That's the rod I'd recommend for you and pair it with either a Calcutta B or a Curado.

Tooth Tamer has a 9'0" XH that works wonderfully for tossing every thing from small double 6 blades and even handles pounders exceptionally well. Chaos Tackle also has some new assault sticks out that I would take a look at. I picked one up myself, but haven't had a chance to fish it yet to give a review.
