A lot of times if it's ticks or mites the hair will be thinning around the bare area a lot more. This does look more like road rash since the hair is still thick right to the spots.

I agree- it does look like road rash to me. However, I know deer get all kinds of goofy thin spots and weird shedding patterns this time of year. Could be ticks or mites, like leech said. Hard to say for sure...
