lilwalter
Looking for recommendations on which caliber for deer/coyote. No plans on shooting over 200yards or putting a thousand rounds through it. Looking to spend $500ish, with scope. New or used. Any manufacturer recommendations appreciated too. Thanks!

picksbigwagon
If you are looking to save pelts, opt for a .243, if you are just wanting to eliminate the coyotes, either one of those will work fine. .308 is an under utilized caliber in my opinion, but that is another discussion
Comit 2
I think you are cutting hairs. Less then 200 yards there is no real difference. Wider bullet selection with 30-06. For less then $500 and a longer action your talking Savage 110. As for me when I asked myself this Q. .243win, .25wssm, 257 Roberts, 7mm Mauser, and 7mm-08 were the ones I looked at but my limit was $1500 for gun and glass. Short actions with 22in barrels make a nice compact well balanced firearm.
toughguy
It's a little higher than your budget but take a look at the Tikka T3. I just picked one up and I love it. Can't wait for Deer season.
redneckdan
Coyote/deer favors the 270. Though something like a 25-06 might be mo'betta. In your budget I think it would be hard to beat the savage/stevens 200. The barrel nut is fuggly but I have seen more that out shoot the operator than any other brand in that price range.
