Uggg, Cottonwood season

Now I don't mind pulling algae and weeds off after nearly every cast, but constantly dealing with those #*^%*! cottonballs on my line.......that's a whole 'nother issue. wink

I'd probably be able to handle it better if I was getting into some fish. smile

(I'm blaming the high clear water and postspawn activity for my lack of sucess yesterday)

Pffft....Cottonwoods........not a fan.

I hear you!! Last Friday night was a terrible night for that, dead calm with a white layer on the surface. Last night there was a little chop so it could have been worse but I would much rather pull off weeds/algae than those compact balls of cotton.

They are a plague to muskie fishermen. Heavy braid that floats on really long casts and you pick up so much of the stuff. I use spinning reels for bass stuff simply because they aren't as affected with the big guides and no levelwind.

I despise this white garbage. I always get paranoid when I am using a bait that has mainly dark colors and I get a big pile of them on the point where my line is tied to the lure. It just looks "off" and I have had enough to cover an entire 1/8th oz. jig head before.

My reels likely want to strangle me when I fish during a bat spell of cotton falling. I actually wound enough onto my older Shimano Sedona rear drag that the line roller got stuck due to enough of it working into the bearing area it spins on. No bueno. MN could benefit from a decent bug or disease that thins out the cottonwood population.
