summer suet

Any suggestions on what type of suet blocks to buy for summer ? I was amazed when I went to Menards and saw they had close to a dozen different choices . Up until now we have been using beef fat but during the summer it looks gross hanging in the window going rancid

We Use the Oriole Delight No Melt Suet Dough. Works pretty good. No Orioles but a lot of others feeding on it.

just buy a few and try. They like the nutty butter a lot but many blends will work.

That's strange Eyeguy, I was just going to post-don't buy that one. Mine get very soft and melt even at normal temps. I put a piece of this on a ledge where the birds jump to the suet cage and the only thing that touched it were the blackbirds, everything else avoided it. Maybe mine was a cheapie, I bought it by mistake on sale at Fleet one time. Funny how things work differently at different feeders. I've had the best luck with regular seed cakes that come on sale in the 10 count boxes. I have a bunch of catbirds just assaulting these things this year.

yepper, ya never know. I havn't had any that don't work. I have a fair amount of shade in the yard.

I was only using suet in the winter till this year. Now I have so many different birds that like to eat off of it I keep it stocked all of the time. Just wish the gray squirrels would leave it alone.

I bought some cheapies from Menards. I go through about two a week.
