On board charger question

cbrunick57

Question

Purchased a minn Kota 3 bank charger, my question revolves around lengthening the leads, my boat has the trolling motor battery on the opposite end of the boat as the starting battery. Do I have to buy the 30$ chunk of wire from Minn Kota, or can I splice in my own wire of the same gauge? I've heard differing opinions on this and was looking for opinions from people who have done it. Thanks in advance!

No problem splicing, BUT!! Be certain to use the proper gauge wire, and make good connections( with a sleeve over it). Most companies recommend soldering the connections.( which I have never been able to do!! cry) After talking to the guys a Dual Pro I was ok using the crimp sleeves and shrink tubing over. Never had any problems.

I bought the extension cables. It made the task quite easy to do. Not that splicing them yourself is difficult but at the time I was glad I went that route.
