jnorm1984
I have a 1983 80 hp merc, and I have no clue what it's worth.... I've seen some go for 1600, but there's a catch, it needs a new stater, trigger, and pack. I don't see keeping it for what I have to pay to fix it, used parts alone are about 475, so knowing that could i ask 1000 for it, or should I be at more like 500? I've owned the boat for 9 years and this is the first fix I've had on it, so I'd say its been good run! Let me know some thoughts if you could..... boatfixer
Sounds to me like it was "diagnosed" by someone who doesn't know how to trouble shoot mercs. That's the easiest thing to say. " they're all shot"Anyway, I agree you're better off parting or scrapping.

Let me know some thoughts if you could..... Fix it and enjoy another 9 years of boating. New parts from a dealer will sink the ship look a round they parts are out there and there are many great mechanics that will work on it or DYI. Oh and its easy to find prices on the classifieds. but that's what people want and most likely not what its worth.
