Has anyone redone there formica countertops by painting them to look like fake granite? I have looked at some you tube videos and it seems like they turn out very nicely. Should I got with a brand name kit like Gianni or follow directions and just use a good line of paints to get the grainite look? How do they hold up? Thanks

There is a product called Granicrete that you can use over existing countertops. It is a multi step two component epoxy and I have an interior designer that I work with regularly who does this on the side and the results are pretty impressive. I will try to post a few pictures of it tomorrow from my laptop.

The granicrete may only be available to certified people. I know there was some training involved. What you are referring to more than likely will work if the prep is done correctly but it may not be as durable or adhere as well.

I would think that the big box stores would have some sort of epoxy type product as well but I am not certain of it.

I was painting some rooms for a lady recently and I noticed she had done one of these paint jobs on her counter. It looked like crapola. She musta really missed a few steps there. Just learned about this stuff when I saw it on her counter. It had scratches, cup rings. just horrible.I would like to see one of these counters completed right and maybe test the product for myself to see if its something I can add to my services.
