Trailblazer recall for Fuel Gauge Sender?

Recommended Posts

I just heard from my stepdaughter who traded in her 2004 Trailblazer that the known problem of the sending unit failing is now a recall - and not just the 50/50 cost thing that it used to be.

I have a 2005 TB that has that problem, not the instrument cluster issue (which I had fixed under warranty years ago). I have question in to dealer friend who sold my Dad the car new, but no word back yet.

(I just reset the trip B odometer now when I fill up - but wife did run out once due to winter/city driving and 300 miles was too much to expect, doh! I don't want to go through the hassle myself or the $400 repair cost.)

Does anybody know if that is true that this did become a recall, or that GM is now paying for 100%? I will post when I hear anything, but it sure seems like every TB in the years GM lists has this issue eventually, prematurely. Thanks for any info from you car guys.

Have 2500, 2005 with same problem. If you go to some of chevy forums you will find that the sending unit is a major problem. Not sure if the TB is the same, but on the trucks, the sending unit is a separate unit and can replaced on its own. Just had mine replaced would be nice if GM did a recall and I could get my money back. If you Google your auto and sending unit you will find all kinds of info

Is "sending unit" synonimous with "fuel pressure regulator"?

I had a 2003 Trailblazer and now a 2003 Envoy (TB was totalled) and had the fuel pressure regulator replaced on both. The Envoy is still acting up.

What we notice is that the vehicle starts fine when cold, but if it is run to operating temp, then sits for say 10 minutes, that it does NOT want to start. As if it is flooded or something. Same thing happened to the TB, but that one seemed to get fixed when the fuel pressure regulator was replaced.

Nope Capt., it is just the thing that reads the level of fuel in the tank. You can find recalls and TSBs on recalls.gov and that is where I found the GM is now paying 100% for it, if under 10 years or 120k, but what my stepdaughter heard from dealer at trade in is that they called it a RECALL now that they are under so much scrutiny, and it just was changed to recall like a week ago, literally, but I don't have confirmation yet. Will post when/if I hear anything.

I replaced a fuel pressure regulator on a Malibu once and it was pretty easy. But my TB starts fine in all temps - so far smile

FWIW, I went to dealership and entered my VIN, and I have no recalls or other items. There was one ext warranty that went until 120k miles, which I am past. I am sure it was for the sending unit. I guess I am back to my original plan, use the Trip Od. B until the fuel pump goes, if it ever does, and replace then.
