The dreams I have for you!

Millie is now 4 weeks old... looking forward to starting my next dog. They are a good looking bunch! I have high hopes with this litter of pups... My plan is to run her a God willing put some titles on her. Its been 15 years since I've done anything competitive, but I have a desire to throw my hat back in the ring.

There aren't too many other times in our life where the anticipation of the future runs as high as the day we pick up our next gun dog!

They are from my lines... one of the few dogs I kick myself for not keeping is the Mom. She has more potential than alot of the dogs I've put my hand over... incl a QAA dog I owned. But she is a pure meat dog. She can flat out HUNT! Tough as nails and never a mark on her. Nut her style, speed, perserverance and marking ability are incredible for a dog that had next to no training.

They are from a line of Champion Master Hunters I have been utilizing and breeding for the last 2 generations. There are 3 generations in a row of CH/MH, the sire and grand sire are both Deep Run Retriever dogs and the Grand Sire on Luna's side is also a CH/MH... Luna's Mom is my old dog and she has the last 3 Dual and Triple Champions in North America in her 4 gen pedigree. I guess I'm a stickler on not only field ability, bidibility and perserverance, but proper structure (never had a blown ACL in any pup of mine), coat (I like a good dual coat for duck hunting), and zero inherited disorders in the line. While a lot of guys I know will always shy away from anything with a show title, these dogs are hunted extensively and are some of the best hunting dogs / producing the best hunting dogs that I've seen. Sam (Luna's grandsire) is the first Lab to recieve the new AKC title of Upland Master Hunter. I know Jack Jagoda and have hunted with him and he knows hunting dogs (one of the original group of guys that started NAHRA). While they recieved their show titles, it was secondary to their field work, but nessacary to carry down a proper built dog.

So in a long winded post, you may not know the dogs in the pedigrees (Casey, Sam, Pete), as I've shifted away from straight field trial lines about 10 years ago... but I make sure I use the best/highest titled dogs I can to achieve what I am breeding for. The pedigree is fairly stacked, just not with today's 'trial' dogs.

My hopes are that she shows the same potential as Mom and Dad and she will hopefully be a on a Pros truck next winter...

looking at the photo of those pups its hard to get beyond the cute factor and see all of that potential you mentioned!!!

Congrats and it is a blessing to be an adult and too be that excited about getting a new pup. Hopefully she only eats half dozen shoes her first year.

oh man... you dont no how nervous I am... I just bought a brand new leather sectional... DOH! Though I have a no dogs on furniture rule, something tells me the sides will taste just fine!

Had to chuckle when you mentioned the leather sectional, hard enough to 'puppyize' everything anyway but something thats immobile....

Speaking of NAHRA, if you're interested, we would love to have a guy like you in our club (Four Points Retriever Club - NAHRA affiliated). We train Thursday nights at Kelly Farms. You may be a few weeks from that type of training, but keep it in mind.

Well fellas, seeing that litter and thinking about their future makes me aware once again of one of the most painful aspects of getting older-the realization that I've had my last puppy; raised my last hunting pal and will not know again the excitement and anticipation of waiting for the new little pal to arrive.

Your time will come too fellas, so enjoy all the time you can with your dogs and of course your friends and family.

Personally I take great pride in the fact that my 18 month old girl Lab knows more words and has a larger vocabulary than my brothers high school grand kids.

But don't tell him I said that.

I lost a lab to cancer in 2008 or 09 and said that one was my last. But my youngest son begged and begged for another so I broke down and bought one. He's 16 now and the lab is 3 and after this lab, I'm done. Getting too old to entertain an energetic puppy

Really nice looking bunch of pups, Ken and Millie looks like an absolute sweetheart. Was at the vaccination clinic this a.m. with our Border Collies and in front of us was a 14 week old Lab. He and Ruby would've had a ball but the guy kept him under control pretty well for one that young. I'll have to see where my life is at in a few years. My Mom's Border will be 11 in a few months and seeing that Lab got me thinking again. Shooting ducks or baling hay and getting busted up by the rams? Hmmmm...
