Polaris winch intermittently cuts out

2009 Polaris 500 4x4

My friend has a Polaris winch that sometimes cuts out when going in and out.

Looks like there is a relay that is wired between the switch and winch. Anybody ever have this relay go out? The wiring is factory he put in the winch and switch, just had to plug in.

I would check the voltage first. I had a warn winch that would do this and the issue was that at 11.9 volts the winch wouldn't work but at 12.0 volts it worked fine. After cleaning all the connections the problem went away.

We had to replace the relay on ours. On our 06 it's up under throttle side front tire compartment. Not too hard to replace.

Had the same problem, sometimes it would work other times not. turned out the contacts in the relay were dirty. its pretty straight forward to replace them, or if you like being a wedge-arse like me you can pry em apart and clean it up inside. just as easy to get a new one tho
