Non resident trapping

Recommended Posts

Just in case for those that hadn't heard the court case that has been going on to try to get non resident trapping allowed in Mn has been decided and denied by the judge hearing the case. Some will be happy some upset I would fall into the latter category.

Nothing to do with biology totally political, Minnesota had 3 times the amount of trappers during the late 70's and early eighties and the resource didn't suffer.

We are the only state in the country that doesn't have some form of nr trapping the amount of people coming into trap would not be noticeable, I think Wisconsin had less than 50 last year.

As it sits now Minnesota residents are unable to travel to many states to trap because of reciprocal laws (all border states).

With the pre season price forecast, chances are not a lot interest from non residents. I am also not in favor of the non resident trapping license, feel there are enough of us already to manage the resource. I know it's tough if you live close to the border to not be able to cross.

Maybe if they trapped the "nonresidents" at the boarder we wouldn't need a Judge to decide! smirk

Well, that was just my first thought when I read the post title! wink

NR can trap in Minnesota! have you read the regs?

Yes I have read the regs, I am pretty sure the plaintiffs from mn and several other states along with their lawyer in this case did also before filing suit. Hunter Lee's post is correct.

This law will get changed sooner or later its not going to go away.

No reason to allow NR trapping.

I disagree

No reason not to......

The only other state that shares Minnesota's asinine anti non-resident trapping law is Hawaii....... and oh yeah, Washington DC too crazy

On a related note, I lived in Wisonsin for 25 years and still own land there.

I now live in the nanny state and I cannot trap there (WI)..... because Minnesota doesn't let Wisconsinites trap here (MN) crazy

Good job Minnesota........ the Great State of 10,000 LAWS
