givetoget
What do you all think would be a better choice for yotes, 22rim mag, or 17cal.
charliepete
When you say 17 cal, do you mean the WMR or the HMR? The WMR is the bigger medicine of the two 17's and produces about 40% more energy than a .22 WMR. The .17 WMR is probably a 150 coyote gun (maybe stretched to 200). The .22 WMR is probably a 75 yard coyote gun. Neither of these guns are 'ideal' coyote rifles, except in case where you need rimfire to be legal. Give me a .223, 22-250, or .243 anyday. mntatonka
22-250 hands down for me. I love the way our Savage shoots. I've dropped running coyotes at nearly 400 yards more than once with it (although I attribute that more to luck than anything). A .22mag or 17HMR won't do much unless you hit them in the perfect spot. You might be thinking of the .22 Hornet or the .17 Fireball, both of which are centerfire rifle rounds. minky
The 17 hmr is a great round but I think it may be a little light for yotes.Any chance you could get your hands on a 223 or 22 250?Both great yote rounds.
