Help me pick a versatile rod

I am looking for a new rod that will can able to handle small to mid-size bucktails, glides/jerks, cranks and topwaters. So pretty much everything except for big blades and plastics. I would like to keep it close to, or under $200. Any suggestions?

+ 1 for T.I. rods! I would go with a 9 ft. If storage is a problem; he has telescoping rods also.

Don't be too afraid of the gander mt guide series rods, get a 2 year no question asked guarantee if it breaks etc. Has been my favorite rod primarily for the way it loads when I set the hook, has a great feel I think. You can get 2 for under 200 clams.

Can't agree more on the Gander Rod as stated above for exactly the same reasons. Rod loads great, it's a slightly slower action than a lot of the graphite rods out there which can be a little bouncy.

Just my opinion, but I don't think that a rod that can throw small bucktails and cranbaits will be the same rod you'll want to toss heavy topwaters or Glidbaits and work them effectively. You may want to concider a couple of rods for the baits you want to throw.

Yeah, I understand one rod can't do it all... But I don't want a rod that's real technique specific either. I'll have to look into the TI rods.

TI 9' XH would be my vote. Great customer service too, very nice guy.

I've only tried a couple of TI rods, but they are not my choice for gliders/jerkbaits/cranks/WTD topwaters. Great bucktail and rubber rods, and probably perfect for trolling, but far too soft of a tip for how I like to work gliders/jerkbaits/cranks/WTD topwaters.

All of the TI rods, and really any rod that's XH, will "handle" the lures you mention but most people who fish a lot have different rods for the specified applications.

My two cents anyway.
