Ice Fishing Courtesy

People seem to be losing respect for others on the ice... I would like to remind people that its rude to drill holes 6 feet from other peoples houses or in the middle of their tire tracks where they pull up to their houses. Its also rude to drive 50 mph around the lake and screw around doing donuts. Keep a respectful distance and kick your holes shut or level them off when you're done.

I'm not sure what you mean by drilling in your tracks, but I agree. Some people are just rude, and it won't change. I don't mind people driving too fast (unless it really is highway speed), or fishing by me. If they get close, I tell them to leave. I've not had that happen at all this year. My biggest issue has been people just drive by like me and my stuff isn't even there. I have my house, and clearly mark every tip up. Yet people go off the plowed road and come right through my setup. I put up a bucket in the track, and people will nearly run over the bucket because they follow the new tracks. Worst was a guy who came between my house and a tip up 10 yards away. The good news is there are just as many good people as ever.

I have had people come and ask if I minded that they were going to set up close to me several times this year. Also had many people offer me bait as they were leaving. I would say get away from the metro and there is still plenty of respect and courtesy.

I would strongly disagree with this being a metro problem. Twice this year I've been 2+ hours north of the metro, at least 1/4 mile from the nearest person, and had someone set up within 20' of me. Are they legal? Sure. These guys get all the tip ups in my house (plus a few depth checking holes) set up 10' 1" (measured) from their house. Two can play the game.

Ice fishermen are worse than duck hunters when it comes to "monkey see, monkey do". And that's saying something!

Can't say I've ever done great in a crowd anyway. I went the opposite direction of the masses last weekend and did great.

I must commend the SD fisherman that drove by me. The half dozen that drove near me made a big loop to go around. They stayed far enough away, yet were close enough they could see my fish on the ice, but nobody hit the breaks and set up next to me.
