Noisy power windows

Recommended Posts

Hopefully this is a simple question to answer.

How do I eliminate the noise my power windows make when I roll them down? You know the noise I'm talking about? Window begins rolling down then growls and roars like a dinosaur on Jurassic Park. Geeeerrrroooooonnnnnkkkkkkkk!

Only does this when rolling down.

Is there some kind of spray or treatment I can add that will get the glass to move more smoothly thru the soft trim in the door frame? It's only the glass rubbing the trim that makes this noise. Not the motor or other mechanical moving parts. Does it both summer and winter.

I would try the silicone spray first as well. Roll the window down, point the straw into the tracks, spray liberally up and down the parts of the track you can get at. Roll the window up and down a couple of times and repeat.

You can also liberally spray the silicone onto a rag and wipe down the door seals. This will help keep them from sticking to the door after a car wash in the winter.

I'm sorry guys, I don't understand "channels".

There are two fine, almost wiper blade-like rubber trim pieces at the top edge of the door, one on each side of the window glass. Are these the channels?

I had the same concerns about constantly smearing the windows, ie., silicone spray on the rubber trim, or glass itself.

Again, I'm quite certain it's nothing mechanical inside the door. The sound is just like a rubber window squeejy on a dry glass window...only amplified about 5 times.

Would it help to apply an even coat of one of those products designed to help water bead up and roll off your windows?

The tracks are what guide the window up and down. One track is on the front of the door ( mirror end) and one track in the rear of the door (handle end of the door). The tracks extend down into the door. Having the window down and using the straw to spray into the track will help keep the spray off the window.
