low277
Does anyone know if you can reverse the rotation on a Big Volt auger by reversing the polarity of the motor?Has anyone tried it?
pushbutton
The thing is a monster at drilling so do not think you would ever need to, but if you ever want to go frakenicestien on my electra, would offer it up to science....not much good for anything else
jentz
Never ran across a elec. motor that didnt reverse wired backwards. It should run opposite.
Ron Vroom
Reversing the auger is a good way to clean the hole and send the slush under the ice.

pushbutton
Learn something new everyday Am not that mechanically savy, but would assume you could rig up some sort of switch relatively easy? Could it "hurt" the unit without some sort of transmission type thing?
Hawg
Just be careful the gears are cut to do that. Ion people say it won't work but they may be being warranty conscience. Anybody tried it on an ION?
38bill
DC motors normally work in reverse unless they are using some kind of electronic motor control that would prevent it (or possibly fry the controller).
Surface Tension
If your DC motor doesn't require a relay or solenoid then this will work and since your big volt worked when you reversed the polarity then this will work. Hawg mentioned the cut in gears. I've never had a big volt gearbox apart so can't say what you have there.
