sportfish
I am looking at the jiffy propane augers for in my Ice Castle and not sure if the lite is the way to go . I like the weight of it but worried about the power , I have a sm electric and hate it , not enough power for me and to slow . I have a jiffy stx 2 stroke but don't like the fumes . So should I go with the regular propane or the lite ?
IcePro
What size holes you want to drill?10" is not available in the lite.I would go with the regular propane

fishinnut_3446
I really didn't care for it, Here's what I posted on LL .12/27/13 6:20 PM CST (edit this post) OK here's my .02 I have a 2nd generation Pro4 LOVE IT! The Stealth STX blades are awesome, did have a hose leak this yr.replaced it good as new. Couple weeks ago I bought a Pro4 Lite, Trouble from the get go,started in 4-5 pulls and would just die started back up drill couple holes die 10-15-20 pulls start spudder and die, Took about 20 mins.to drill about a doz.holes. Took back to GM and the Manager even said there was something wrong?(carb.?) Exchanged for a 2nd 1,ran a lot better but still 4-5 pulls even when warm(Pro4 1/2 pull when warm)as far cutting, mine would cut 4"-5" then stop cutting, the ice would get jammed in the point! (and I made sure there was no snow on ice before drilling)so as far as someone saying the blades are the same? STX blades have 2 extra blades by point, Ripper blades do not. Could I have gotten one with bad blades, don't know but that 1 got returned also, Manager(same 1 as before) was not going to take this 1 back because he said it was used! Took back to diff. store no problem. Needless to say at the 1st GM the guy rubbed me the wrong way and now be spending my $$$$$ else where. Trout26
I bought one this year and have used it from 30 degrees to -30 and have not had any problems. Has always started and ran good.
GSP4ME
I bought the regular one last year and love it. Have drilled a ton of holes with it. Yes its heavy but dam is it nice
T.S128
I bought one earlier this year and it went back to the store after the first weekend and replaced with an eskimo at half the price.I had a bad experience right off the bat and didnt want to deal with it again. Fishing in 27 below i screwed in the tank and couldn't get it to start, heard some leakage so unscrewed the tank and liquid propane started shooting out everyhere. had to eventually warm both the auger and tank in the house to get to start. Once running it was able to drill holes. started every hour for the rest of the day but had to work up a sweat. the next morning i couldn't get it to start at all until i got home and left it inside for an hour. I wanted an auger that works in any condition i want to fish. the pro4 lite didn't do it for me. other things i didn't like: the trigger is on the left handle the handles are coated with slick rubber that gets hard to hold if you have any snow or ice on your glovesthe pull chord handle is extremely small and hard to start with mitts oncutting speed is slow (not a deal breaker, whats an extra couple of seconds?)does not start of first or second pull like everyone claimshave to be careful how you lay it down (same goes for any 4 stroke)all in all im glad i went back to a 2 stroke auger i haven't had any trouble starting it in the smae weather conditions and its cheaper.if i were to get one just for in the ice castle i would probably pick up an ion

I can store my Strikelite 2 in any position I choose and it doesn't leak oil.
sportfish
I think the ion would be great but I worry about having to buy a new battery for it every other year
fishinnut_3446
T.S128 did you have any problem taking it back ?When I was told they would not take the 2nd one back I was HOT and said [PoorWordUsage] am I going to do with an auger that's just not cutting it for me?And as far as the liquid propane leaking out my did the same thing and it was +25-30 outside. GSP4ME
Wow surprised to hear of those issues. I havent had any problems with mine. Like the one start pull, the no fumes
Sand Burr
The propane leaking out everywhere is a tank moisture problem not a Jiffy problem. That's like saying my gas tank tipped over so my stikemaster is junk....
fishinnut_3446
Are you saying moisture in tank? I thought maybe when it wasn't running all that good I would try a different tank. Never had it happen to the Pro4 .Not bashing Jiffy because I LOVE MY PRO4, Maybe I just got two lemons?

Well, it is kind of a Jiffy problem... you don't hear a lot of strikemaster guys complaining about propane leaking out of the tank
sportfish
I decided on the pro 4 , it is a tank ! I put oil in it , screwed the tank on , pulled 3 times and runs great ! Hope to try it soon
