2005 Tundra timing belt - should I try to do myself?

Recommended Posts

I have had a f150 ever since I was 16. I purchased this unit a few weeks ago and absolutely love it. It has 100k on it and I knew going in I would have to do the timing belt. Im ok with a wrench. I have done plugs, wires, alternators, starters, waterpumps, thermostats. Would something like this be over my head if I bought the manual? My garage is heated to now I can work on this kind of stuff. Any advice is appreciated!

It's a pretty easy one to do, relatively speaking.

Couple tips...

Pull the radiator, takes five minutes, gives you more room to work, and you don't have to worry about gacking it with a tool or parts.

Get an O.E. Water pump from the dealer if you decide to replace it. I have had to many of the after market ones not line up correctly and you won't find out until it's all back together.

Pay attention to the plastic covers especially the smaller triangle one on the lower right. I always forget to put that one back in. wink
