clayton08
So heres the deal I went to cabelas and bought myself the pro lazer I know quite a bit about augers and always wanted this baby so bought it. The first auger ran great the first day I had it for a tourney after that I had to start choking it then yesterday it straight up wouldnt run at all then a gas line started leaking. So I brought it back and exchanged it. The new one I got takes at least 20 pulls to start its ridiculous my buddys keep tell me to get an eskimo but I do tourneys and running and gunning is my motto pretty much. It isnt uncommon for me to drill 50 hole grids once I find fish. I just would like to hear some input on everyone elses auger expereince and what the heck is going on with strikemaster. I have a tc2 that runs great and glad I held on to it.
Lawrence Luoma
I spent 3 years of hell with a Solo engine. Worst engine I ever had. When I had a solo for 3 years it was serviced 7 times at Strikemaster and still was never right. Last season ran a tanaka and I was in heaven with not one problem. This year I'm running Clam Drill Plate, DeWalt 20v 4.0Ah. Not many drill hole than me in a tournament. I'm averaging 100 holes a battery as far this year and thats now confirmed three tournament days. The king a drilling holes Myron Gilbert was in shock while prefishing at the NAIFC Championship as he said I had three holes drilled by the time he turned on the choke. This was done while his partner was having problems with his 4 stroke. I'm done with gas!!!
clayton08
I pretty much see you at every tourney Im at. I do some team extreme tourneys and got into the upl this year so will see you next weekend. I think Im gonna just go ahead and get the clam conversion if I can find it. These new strikemasters are nothing but junk imo. Thanks for the input lawrence I take your word for it. Ill be prefishing big marine this saturday if you see a guy driving a blue ford around with a edge suit that be me.
fisherman-andy
Let me add some positives. I have own my Solo Lazer Pro for the last 4 years, no problems except for the usual dull blades. I run Amsoil saber 100:1 on just 92 octane gas. Nothing else special, no seafoam not special engine treatment. I store my auger wet.I can start the auger cold generally in 1-4 pulls. Prime bulb 4-6 times. Put on choke and pull till it fires up. Once it has fired up, put lever to run and pull cord and it will start typically on just 1 pull. People can have bad experiences, however this doesnt mean the powerhead itself is bad. Im sure there are many happy Solo owners that would agree with me. clayton08
I love the auger when it cuts but its rare that it ever runs good. I dont know if I keep getting bad ones or what Ill try it with some amsoil tomorow hopefully it helps.
FisH_SLaYer24
I am on my third year with my Lazer Pro and like fisherman andy I too run the 100:1 Amsoil Saber Oil. I prime the bulb 2-3 times, set the choke to "run" (only when it has been sitting), give it 1-4 pulls, and I am off and running. I haven't had any issues while running my auger and so far it has been a good investment in my ice arsenal.
Esox_Magnum
When rumors surfaced about Techumse closing shop and I was searching for a new auger at the time, I went to the local shop set on a 224 Lazer, he was sold out and then found out they to will be discontinued so plan B was the new 4 stroke and then I saw the Nils in the corner... My brother spoke highly of his so I got it and since then no regrets and no issues...Yea may leave a little more ice in a hole but nothing terrible but it is reliable and has yet to fail me....I have friends with the new SM and all have had some problem with them, glad I went with a proven motor rather than taking a chance on a new untested one... clayton08
What ratio you guys been mixing 100:1?
dfeste
Ran 1 or 2 tanks at 50:1 then switched to 80:1. That's with a Tanaka but shouldn't matter which brand motor. Next tank I'll go to 100:1.

walleye44
You might want to try a Nils power auger. I cannot believe how fast and easy these augers cut. I used to love my jiffy.
PFUNK
I also just bought a lazer pro but mine has been great so far. First gallon of fuel i mixed was amsoil saber at 45:1. I prime 3 times, set it to start, and pull 2-3 times until the engine fires. Switch to run and she's up an going the next pull. Left it on the ice one night when the temps dropped below zero and it started in 4 pulls in the morning. It cuts like mad too. So far I am very happy with it. I did turn the idle screw in a little bit too which helps get it started a little easier I think.

sausageman
Clayton08I have a a Strikemaster Lazer Pro, a Nils, and an old Mag III. When the Nils has sharp blades it whistles through ice great, however I have the power point cutting tip and when the blades start dulling the Nil's power head doesn't have enough power to turn the auger. I then have to unscrew the auger by hand to loose the powerpoint from the ice so I could start drilling again. This was very frustrating to me up at Leech last year so I bought a Lazer Pro 3 hp power auger. Now this sucker has power!!!! I read somewhere on the board that the trick with the lazer Pro is not to prime it if you see gas in the primer bulb. Just choke it and start pulling. I've had much better results starting it this way.I also switched all my augers to Premium Non-oxygenated gas sold at Fleet Farm mixed with 80:1 Amsoil Saber. Ever since I have been doing this my augers purr like a kitten. The auger run very clean and start very easy. When I buy 5 gallons of the non-oxygenated gas I usually add Sta-bil as a precaution, in case the gas stays around longer then I intended.Hope this helps. YiGGiN4SLoBS
I switched out to amsoil today 2 pulls started right up. I think I might of been flooding it to begin with cuz i was priming it like 5 times i primed it once today and fired up. My bad strikemaster I still love you guys. I just purchased a strike master laser last year and i RARELY ever have had to prime it. Like the other guy on here said- If there is gas in the bulb just choke and pull. Mine starts 1-3 pulls everytime and i love it.Good luck out there!
Mr.Seaguar
To you guys who brag about drilling so many holes, wouldn't it be easier to choose lakes with better fishing?
