fishwater
+1 for using the DH Al dente as a walleye deadstick. I've pretty much stopped using my Thorne deadsticks. Andy's summary of the three is spot on imo, good info for folks looking for a new noodle ice rod.
rodmaker
I agree with Matt.I own two powernoodles. If you can get the recoil guides like Matt mentioned. You will not be sorry at all.Check out the trip wire rods at TB as well.
iEatNoodles
Firstly, I need to dispel the aforementioned comment that the DH Noodle rod is a direct copy of the TB power noodle. This is true only in the sense that it too is a noodle.. and it Too has a 1.0mm tip. These are the ONLY similarities, I personally hand turned our original on a drill until I achieved the exact action I wanted.. for us, we wanted backbone and the ability to get to the hook set MUCH quicker than our competitors. We are a recoil Guide dealer and use AAA grade cork, does this make our components inferior? We use a lightweight Fly Guide that weighs EXACTLY the same as a Recoil guided rod when built.. Hmmm, we are saving you 30.00 and you are getting the only benefit of a recoil guide.. Interesting. We are saving people from spending 25-30 dollars on guides that not only were NEVER meant for ice fishing, but are NOT treated for cold temps. "Outside Guides" that don't freeze? never heard of it.. basic science here folks.. Water and 32 degrees = ICE Nitinol Wire (Recoil guides)are not treated for cold temps and become malleable at about 10 degrees.. ever had a recoil guide bend to the blank and not come back? yea.. it's because they are not designed for it. SUPERIOR guides? YES but for fly rods, and other open water applications. The only benefit to a recoil guide is that it is a WIRE and has NO nooks and crannies for water to hide, making it much easier to clear ice from. That said we built our new standard rods with our lightweight Fly Guides. Those of you that believe that any product in the fishing industry is 100% made in the USA.. you need to do some research.. Recoil guides? NO, Fuji Guides? NO... Cork trees in the USA? NO.. the extruded fiberglass stock that all "noodle rods are turned on" well.. again, do a little research and be informed. The ONLY reason I am chiming in here is that I feel that we need a level playing field here.. any particular company JUST BECAUSE they "sponsor" this site should not have the right to "misinform the public" about their competitors and or make FALSE claims regarding the quality or lineage of our products.as for not putting the quality into our rods.. have you seen the thread work that we do on our entry level rods? about 2-3 times the work of our competitors.Whatever Noodle rod you choose, Thorne Bros, DH Custom, or TUCR I am SURE that it will increase your production on the ice. THAT is a fact!!TIGHT LINES ALL!! DH

fisherman-andy
Good information, kudos to DH! As I said before earlier in my post, these rod makers work hard to earn our business and use quality parts. Whether it's custom rods from TB, DH, TUCR one should be pretty happy. I own rods from all 3 and I'm very satisfied with each one. Heck. Just buy all 3 noodles and be happy. I know I did lol.

palisade1kid
I have a Meatstix that I love to use. Can't remember what it is (graphite or glass) but what is the difference that I will see/feel and what is the difference between the two material(durability, sensitivity, etc...) also, what would you recommend for handle length. I am going to pair it up with a Eagle claw Inline. I use a pencil grip 95% of the time. I was leaning towards more of a 3" handle but I could be persuaded...JP The Jason Mitchell Meat Stick is glass and being a factory rod they really have it down for reasonable money. Sure there are other choices for avid anglers but for the average guy wanting to work tungsten...in my mind you can't beat the price for what your getting.
