Propane heat in ranger cab?

Don't think there is any real cheap way to get by. I have the Polaris version with the heater core/blower.

There is an electric one with blower that you can put under the dash, but do not know the brand, or how well it works.

A person in Ely has one of these. I'll find out more info next time I see him, and get back to the forum.

Just read owners manual on little buddy screw on type 1 lb system. It has tip over safety also. Anybody know how to disable that?. I was thinking screw down a PVC sleeve center floor board that a 1 pounder would fit snug in but bouncing would probably shut it down.

If you use anything other than the Polaris heater core with blower, you will also need a dash mounted blower for the windshield, to keep it clear.

A bit off topic but strongly recommended for a Polaris Ranger with cab and doors: Have a "Sun Roof" type hinged window installed in the top of the cab, to be used as an escape hatch if you ever drop through the ice.

If you break through in about 4-5 feet of water, your doors/windows WILL NOT OPEN because they're blocked by the ice, and that will be your only way out!!

Aren't there just small electric/ceramic ones that you can plug into a cig lighter outlet? I would think that would be the safest, as long as you don't use it when the engine isn't running ( and run down your battery ).

I think CLAM makes heated seats that run off of a battery which would be another altherative.

I'd avoid the propane thing, that just won't end well. My 2c

Found a heater core for 129. Jegs hot rod. Not saying your wrong but why would the propane be dangerous. People fish all day in portables with them. Looked up the golf cart heater and that's basically what I wanted to do with the little buddy screw on. Tried a cig one last year waste of $$

I would save your pennies and opt for the Polaris heater kit. Your going to get the best performace possible out of the heater, they come with directions and everything you need to install them properly in the event you dont want to have your dealer instal. The new kits have plastic ducts that run up to a dash mounted defroster vent to keep the windshield clear. By far the best performing, safest way to go. You may want to search &-Bay or the web. Any aftermarket UTV heater will work as long as it is designed for use on your machine. There may even be a universal kit out there but my reccomendation is to used the Polaris one since the directions, hardware and everything you need has been designed specifically for your vehicle for the best possible performance.

When I bought my Ranger I got the Rangerwear fixed windshield, top and rear w/sliding beer window. I thought I wanted doors too. The dealer told me I would hate them. He said they rattle and the noise will drive you bananas. The cab heats up in summer since the motor is right under your seat and it would be 100 degrees in there. In the winter it fogs up almost instantly. He also said you are dressed to be outside anyway. The cab breaks the wind which is the biggest benefit anyway. Easy in & out too. I have driven many miles in sub-zero temps and never wished I had doors.

Not knocking you, but your dealer is a fool. I use my rangerware doors fall-winter-spring, I've never wished I didn't have doors. Is it as warm as the pickup of course not, but its pretty comfortable and I've been out at -25 on the lake many times. As soon as it's warm out I take them off, pretty easy since the doors lift right off. First mistake he made was selling you a non-opening front windshield, by opening the front window you get some air and it really helps for dust & heat in the summer.

    • Yeah it was a beatdown

    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
