merkman
Muskies are beginning to be more common on Ottertail Lake and many of those are getting speared because many aren't really aware they're in there Please do not spread unproven statements on this board...If this were true the DNR enforcement records would show this.If you know it to be true and you are not reporting it... well then you my friend are a part of the problem. So I challenge you and your statement you are passing off as fact... please show me where these muskie spearings were reported.Thank You-merkman
Yooperguy
Merk completely agree with you, also if you are witnessing this why aren't you calling the tip line on these poachers?
merkman
Its kind of like the guys that shoot a swan thinking its a snow goose. You have to be a complete moron to pull the trigger on the wrong species. Spearing is no different. Welcome back Yooperguy. Its been awhile since you've been in here trying to stir up trouble. This is my one and only post of the year acknowledging your problem causing. I would suggest all of the other regulars on here do the same. Trolls go away when they don't get attention. tolle141
Just want to clear the air because I think there's confusion between both muskie anglers and spearers. Muskie anglers (myself included) - are very protective of our fish, know it takes a long time to grow them, and just don't want fish being taken accidentally. Hearing things like "don't know, don't throw" show that we have little to be concerned aboutPike spearers - looks like you want to have access to trophy pike/good eater lakes. Since muskie success is heavily dependent on having good forage and a low-density pike population, many of the muskie lakes are also excellent trophy pike lakes. So if pike spearers follow the "don't know, don't throw" mentality then there's no reason why we can't lift spearing bans and unite to get both of our goals - muskie anglers get more lakes to spread out fishing pressure and spearers have access to the waters they want. NO!!!! PLEASE STOP GROUPING THE TWO TOGETHER.Thus the inverse would be true. If Muskie anglers don't get there lakes than spear fisherman don't get there lakes.Let each stand on there own merit. If more muskie lakes are a good thing the let it be. If more spearing lakes are a good thing then let it be. If one isn't a good thing, it is no reason to stop the other. tolle141
Well the two groups seem to be butting heads at every turn so I'm trying to find some common ground.
MJ1657
No reason to butt heads. You cannot spear Muskies plain and simple.End of story.
