fishnowworknever
Most of them have their place; flashers, gps, LED lights etc...But every year someone comes out with something that makes you question their sanity. (IMO)For instance, I just saw frabil has come out with an electronic tip up line counter...really?Who has that on their christmas list? 20lbSloughShark
Fishing is one of those things that you can take to any extreme, it just depends on the person. People on this site are usually die-hard's so they need ice suits, flashers, super-tough super fishing rods, and so on. . The only real "needs" are a line, a hook, and bait. Those that like to make fishing, home away from home, need permanant houses, generators for their TV's, propane stoves, you get the picture. I am very goal orientated, I have a clear idea on what I want to accomplish in fishing (applies to all things in life), and when I find a weak spot, I improve. Maybe one day I'll decide I need to know how much line is out to properly set a hook, for now the $40 price tag is too much for what it is. bobbymalone
Is it really electronic? I thought it would just be a mechanical roller like a line counter reel. When I didn't have a vex, I had numbered beads tied on dacron line every three feet, a simple bead tied every foot, and a lead weight on the end. Poor man's depth finder for about 5 bucks and hour of threading beads and tying knots. Went down to 40 feet and was wrapped up on a chunk of dowel rod. Worked awesome for it's purpose. 11fish1
I saw those last winter. They tell you how much line is out and how long the flag has been up. They seem more like a novelty to me, tip-up fishing is pretty easy not much need to add electronics to them.
servocam
Some people like gadgets. Did you see those Blue Tipz - tip-up indicators with Bluetooth and app for your phone to notify you. I may but 2 of them.

I may but 2 of them. I think Deep Freeze LLC has a potential good product with these. I am hoping to test them out this year along with their pro model hole skimmer. I know one thing the blue tipz will be nice when I am sitting in my portable and I can't see out due to a fogged wind.

PurpleFloyd
Does anyone sell an automatic hook baiter yet?
servocam
Isn't bluetooth range something like 30 feet? Depends upon what BT class. They say 200 yards, which seems a bit high for this device, but they must just give a fast one-shot high power pulse out.
EngineerBob
BlueTipz uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BT4.0), which is newer and designed for low power sensors. It doesn't require pairing or a constant connection like older Bluetooth Classic, and it's capable of blasting out brief signals at higher power, which is how it gets the range it does.
