Strikemaster leaking gas

walleye-

Recommended Posts

Bought a new solo last year drained gas for storage this spring. Refilled yesterday and she fired right up but the grommet which has the gas lines running through it on the tank is leaking. Anyone else run into this problem. Would rather not drive 45 min to big lake to get this fixed.

Thanks

I had the same thing happen last year with mine and ended up finding out it was the AIR VENT part #2700430 that was bad.

When i went to order this the lady told me that they had some bad ones that would leak so they fixed that with the newer vent.

If you look behind the cover were the primer bulb is you will see a round plastic part on the end of a gas line, this is what is leaking

Good luck

Had that same problem when i took mine out this season and mines only two yrs old! Luckily last year i had went to the strike master shop over in i think its Tonka for a few things and the guy gave me an extra grommet and gas lines no charge. So happy i went there last year, it sure saved me time to have to run over there again.

I have worked on a bunch of the solo auger with the same problem. What I have found is that the lines seem to shrink when in storage and do not have fuel in them. Testing in my shop seems to show that in about fifteen minutes, the lines swell up enough to seal the leak. The only seal on the lines and the grommet is the size of the line which is an interference fit to the grommet, meaning the id of the grommet is smaller than the od of the line. I have had five of these machines now that have not leaked for the whole season last year. I have had my customers use fuel conditioner in the fuel and leave the fuel in the tank. Fuel needs to be fresh at the time of storage.

Thanks for the info Harry. I am just on second year of mine, but I did store it standing up, and did not run fuel out of it. Glad I did it that way. Started up good for me last weekend after a summer of not starting it at all. Maybe we should run these in summer just a bit to keep gas in there? Or is standing upright good enough? Thanks again for the info.

Mine leaks like a mofo. That plastic vent part sucks. My auger also dies randomly all the time. Not a big fan of the way the auger runs. When it runs it rips through the ice, but I have to restart the dang thing every third hole or so. Pain in the arse.

Polarisusd81 - you need a carb rebuild. That's exactly what happened to mine. I drained the gas for the summer and they said the diaphragm dried out. Has run good ever since but I store it with treated gas during the summer and run it every month for 5 min.

Seems like a lot of people are having issues with this.  I have not had one problem with my 3hp Solo….oh wait, I take that back, I did have one of the blades come loose and fall down the hole, engine wise though it runs like a top.   I wonder if that is because I always store it upright and with a full tank of gas.  Either way, I’ll be keeping my eyes open for this, but so far so good.  (year 3)

I have had the same issue with my fuel lines, leaked like son of a gun, took it in to a small machine shop, they were amazed I was having any kind of problems with a 2 year old solo engine, it was the fuel lines, they put higher quality lines in it and I have never looked back. Mine was the first one in their shop, but when I went back the next day to pick it up, 3 more had shown up with the same problem. $45 fix, they had to fish out the broken off pieces from the gas tank as well, so if you are a do it yourself-er, make sure you fuel tank doesn't have any surprises in it.

My auger ripped ice after that, on lazer hand auger blades too, since the regular blades are to expensive and easy to ding up

I bought 3 feet of fuel lines for $2.75. A couple beers, 25 minutes and a few choice words and I was done.

Hmm, I might pro-actively do this as well. Not hard to do, and I like beer and swearing wink

Me too.

I have always stored mine full and upright just like most others. It ran like junk right from the first time I fired it up. Brought it to Strikemaster in Big Lake before they closed the good shop, cause I was breaking recoils left and right. Told em it ran like dump and they said they would fix the recoil but didn' know about the random dying issue. Haven't had an issue with the recoil since then, but it has always run bad.
