2008 Yukon Denali 6.2 Using Oil

Recommended Posts

Above engine using 2+ quarts of oil every 3,000 miles. Dealer has replaced valve cover, oil pan baffle under warranty. Vehicle still using oil. GM now states that using this much oil is withing acceptable limits - I cry foul. Vehicle now out of warranty but dealership wants to fix under warranty and DSM is unwilling. Vehicle has 78,000 miles total. Ideas/Comments/Recourse?

I have a 07 Yukon 5.3 motor. 88k miles same problem. Not quite as much oil usage as yours but as far as Im concerned it shouldn't use any. Dealer shop told me its normal in most GM truck motors. On the other hand I know of 2 other 5.3 motors that are running strong with over 200k on them. They also have been using oil for the last 100k miles. $900+ for complete overhaul. I just keep adding oil and check to make sure its allways full. Have heard Dodge has this issue also with high mile motors.

2 qts in 3000 miles is within their limits. In fact I believe it is like 1qt per 900 miles is the limit.

All engines use some oil, some just use a lot less. The era gm engines are known to burn oil.

Think of it this way, if it were to cost you $2000 out of your pocket, would you fix it? Or just add 2 qts every 3000 miles?

Another question, what oil are you using? I know when I use synthetic, mine uses about 3 qts in 3000 miles. But if I use conventional oil, it uses about 1 qt.

Actually, it started using oil all of a sudden. That amount of oil usage in ridiculous. I had the same year denali that I just traded with 140000 miles on it and it did not burn a drop of oil. The oil was strictly synthetic for most of its life. I switched it over to conventional the last two changes to see if it would make a difference - nope! According to GM, their acceptable usage is as follows.....1 quart per 2000 miles on vehicles with less than 36000 miles and after that they can use "more". No threshold of when "more" is considered too much. They consider per the DSM that vehicles with over 36000 miles are considered "high mileage"! I have purchased 5 new suburban/denalis in the last 10 years, if they choose to not fix this problem, it will be my last.
