land ower/permission to hunt ?

Recommended Posts

I have a question about land permission. So I hunt in central mn and this land I hunt my family has had permission to hunt before I could hunt. My grandpa use own most of the land and farmed everything around the farm. He passed away a bout 5 6 years ago they sold most of the land I think yhey kept 80 acres and the propriety the farm house is on wich is all fields. My question is I can not geta hold of the land owner sho owns the woods I hunt in I have ppermission through the farmer who is leasing it. Here is my question there has been a guy out here th he past 4 years during firearms saying he has hunted this land for 20 years (not true like i stated before i have been out hunting this spot for 14 years) and has permission to hunt it from the owner which I don't belive is true because I asked him to call the owner s and he said he didn't have the number. The farmer doesn't want him out here either he put up no tresspassing signs and is too busy or can't catch him out here. Do I call the dnr???? What are my options on this?

Surely the guy who leases the land has contact information for the owner.. Bear in mind, that the guy who leases the land, may not have rights to give anyone permission to hunt (hunting rights reserved) and you may find yourself with the whole thing to hunt if the conversation goes good, or you may find yourself out in the cold on the whole property if the convesation goes bad. Tread lightly, play the family card as often as possible.

I stopped slug hunting in MN because of the hassle with all of the people. It is also much easier to get permission to bow hunt anyhow.

I had permission to solely hunt 3 different spots, and these spots were posted for No Trespassing, and on everyone of them spots, every year, I would have at least 2 encounters of trespassers messing up my hunting. I use to let it bug me, but now, I just bow hunt in MN, and I sleep much better at nights. During slug season in MN, I just go to Wisconsin and bow hunt. I stay away from the crowds here.

You'll never get your resolution one way or the other without talking to the real landowner. If nobody magically has their number confused you can always check with the county for the legal owner and contact them that way.

Calling in the CO or Sheriff on a guy who may or may not be "tight" with the landowner can really go either way. Best for you to figure it out on your own or just accept it. 2c
