givetoget
Im planning a week to come to Winnie area (south to east side) to ice fish. Maybe from Bena area to to Deer river and maybe up to Bowstring area. any recommendations?. prefer a nice and comfy place as the wife will be along.Mode of transportation on the lakes would either be 1/2 ton pick or might bring sleds.I would really appreciate any help or guidance. ryan p
Lots of great places to stay in this area, a few being Denny's, Tamarack, Becker's, and Nodaks Resorts and they all have great road systems on to Lake Winnie in the winter time. leech~~
If you just want a motel room? "The Hill" up the road in Squaw Lake has a few rooms and a bar & grill right there for after fishing!

Rikkus
If your real lucky, you might get into Becker's. They have newly remodeled cabins, at very good rates. Our cabin is 3-Bedrooms, lots of room, a Fire Place, Dishwasher, large dining area, with nice furniture, Flat Screen with Dish TV. They're on the SW side, by the river. PerchJerker
We've been going to Nodak Lodge for years and have been very happy with them. I have also been to the Hill a few times and like that place a lot as well.

Thanks Perchjerker, We did stay at Nodaks a good few years back, is that the place on the south end has a bar in the lodge, lodge is open all winter. Sounds like the same place. They're on the very south end of the lake, right next to Dennys, with a Lodge / Bar / Game Room. We've been going there for years, at first it was just the guys, lately the kids have been coming with us too. Nice resort, good road systems, good advice from the guys who work there. We like it. Rikkus
Becker's shares a plowed road with McArdle's, that gets on Winnie by the Mississippi. That area has been our favorite spot for perch fishing. We always do very well on that side, by River Bar. I saw Doug & Nancy at the Blaine Expo. They still have openings. Nodak's is fine. They are reasonable for cabins. Their road gets a bit less traffic than Denny's. They would be my 2nd choice. The cabins are okay. Their road goes out by Hunter's Hump, one of my favorite Winnie Spots.
