Thorne brothers rods.

That's OK. Some people don't appreciate filet mignon, and are perfectly happy with a top round steak. To each his own.

I can tell the difference. The thorne brothers rods are not filet Mignonon. Filet Mignonon would be rods by Adam bricker from what I can see. The thorne brothers are about like sirloin steak.

I understand what Agronomist is saying.

I have TB rods that I have not use in a few years. I do have others that fish as well as my TB rods and like them so much, I rarely if ever use my TB rods.

I am not saying that they are bad rods, heck they are very good rods but I have built some rods that are maybe half the price of the TB rods. I have a few store bought rods that also perform very well.

So, in no way am I slamming a TB rod, just saying, there are others out there built that can perform as well as the TB rods.

They have great guides, red cedar grips and very good blanks. These roda are as nice as the TB rods.

TB rods get alot of hype in the forums and thats fine as they are good rods but, just beacause another says he has rods that fish as well, does not mean you cannot find another rod that ice's fish as well as a TB rod.

I could care less if the rod if a Filet Mignon or round steak as long as they ice fish. name really means nothing to me, I do not get all caught up in that name stuff.

With all this said, I would question that a $20 rod would work as well or be as sensitive as a TB rod.

Wondering why you didn't post this in the consumer reviews section? I would expect a little more details in your review complete with other rods compared and all their specs to lend some credibility to it. Otherwise it seems like you are trolling. "Feels" the same as a $20 rod? That rivals a preposterous statement right there. For the record I don't even own a thorne bros rod so I don't take any offense to your "review" just calling it for what it is ridiculous unless you provide more specifics.

After having one I really don't understand any of the hype about them. It's a really nice rod, but I think many manufactures are making a rod like them for $20

Have you caught a fish yet on your TB rod? I imagine it would be hard to compare rods until you use it. The Bricker rods look nice and are definitely more artistic that TB rods. However, I don't need a hook remover in mine since I have pliers for thatand alsoI don't need a 2 in 1 rod (I'll buy 2). That's a lot like using a 2 piece rod for open water and comparing it to a 1 piece, the 1 piece will be more sensitive.

All I am trying to get at is use the rod before slamming it.

This whole thread started by someone who funds it necessary to itemize his fishing gear in his footer?

I also belong to a golf forum. On there everybody post the gear they use. Like I have below. Then if someone is using something you wanted to know about you can message them and ask about it. Reason being is if someone states their opinion on something that is suppose to be great and it isn't a good review morons in the forum blow up over something has simple has someone not liking a certain golf ball. Gee sound somewhat familiar? And yes, I have been asked about how I have liked certain gear that I've used. Why would someone message and ask instead of posting? Don't think it's to hard to figure out.

my xml rod was a hunk of junk. it caught fish for a while but fell apart.

outside of the noodle rods and quiver stick's, there hasn't been a ton of immediate difference in shelf rod vs custom. use it for a few seasons though and i bet you'll grow to notice the difference.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck with the XML. I've really liked and had great luck with mine, it's one of my favorite rods. Oh I plan to use the perch sweet heart, I think it will be a great rod. I just wouldn't spend the money on another one again.

Up until two winters ago I only bought the "cheaper" rods. I purchased the Thorne Bros Noodle and absolutely love it. I use it about 75% of the time I hit the hard water. For lures that are on the lighter side it is wonderful. I still like my other rods for jigging the heavier lures. I would not hesitate to purchase another custom rod whether it is from Thorne or somebody else. I believe they are worth the money.

I will give $19 for that throne bros rod to take it off your hands and relieve some stress.

Lol........ Ok...... somewhat in defense of Agronomist, I do think many things in this industry are a little silly......just look at the new Lift suit from Clam, many on here are already praising it's attributes, but have not even used it yet. See no reason why it wont be a good suit, but come on guys! Yes, TB rods are really nice(own 4 myself) and better than off shelf models, but will they put 80% more fish on the ice? Feel bad for some kid just getting into the sport and watching this forum with all the "recommendations" thinking he needs a hundred dollar rod to catch a fish......

Don't get me wrong, as I am often as guilty as the rest. smile But when I saw the video of the dude up in the Nortwest Territories fishing with a freaking broom handle for a rod, bent nail for a hook, and darn near a rope for a line ...and he needs to fish to feed his family....it just made me feel a little silly wink

With almost all outdoor products you will find product reviews on forums like this that Pro staff make about a sponsored product. Most Pro Staff are very honest but some maybe not so much do to the fact they get thier products for free.

Personally, I would rather read a review from a poster that is not involveded in any way and is not sponsered by any companies, then you know almost for sure the review is legit.

If we can be totally honest, there are custom rods on the market that are very good with the best cpmponents made. My question is, do they or will they ice you more fish, from my expierence, I would say no.

I do not want a rod that has no action and is nothing more than a solid glass blank for gills unless I had a spring bobber, then it would work very well as the spring would show the bite.

WE all like the best product made but do we really need them or is it a I have one of those items deals??

I have used cheap rods and there have been times they have broke for whatever reason and I have had and used the higher end rods and they can break also. I had one ice rod, went for close to $140 and it broke the 3rd time out. That hurt.

There is quite a difference from what you need and what you would like.
