Need some advice

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Last year I had a deep freezer that I only used for fur. It died on me at the end of the winter and I have not replaced it. After looking around, at this time it seems there are not any cheep old chest freezers within my price range on the List. I'm not willing to stick my fur in my other freezer with my food, and my buyer is too far to make a trip every day for a few coon. I don't have the ability stretch and dry the fur. Will skinning and salting be enough to keep the pelt in a pile in my garage?

Don't salt them, you are either going to have to find a freezer or somebody that can put your fur up for you if your buyer is to far away. If you are going to salt them and put them in your garage you might as well not even trap them, obviously when the weather gets cold enough you can buy a couple days without freezing or putting up but thats about it.

I actaully do not put up much fur anymore. Otter, Fisher/Martin, cats and wolf if I have a tag are all I put up any more; and that is simply because I need to skin them to register anyways.

As I spent endless hours pecking away at rats or coons I did the math and found if I go to bed on time, get up on time and hit the now longer trapline fully rested and going like a badger on a gopher den I actaully came out money ahead. It helps to have a good country buyer you can trust and treats you right on prices. Shop your buyer hard and it may work out better for you.
