Some paint came off while removing wallpaper and we want to paint walls

Recommended Posts

We removed the wallpaper off our family room, however there are several large areas where it pulled the paint off the wall. How do I repair those areas so it doesn't show after our new paint job?

I should add that it is down to bare Sheetrock in those areas. Whoever painted the walls when they were new either didn't prime them first, or they didn't wash the dust off prior to painting.

I do a lot of wallpapers strips and every one of them are diagnosed in there own way.Sand then prime areas that were peeled off first with a primer .I use BIN,It's a primer in a spray can that is lacquer based. Then when dried apply two coats of Durabond 5 min patch, comes in a small box.Sand to your pleasing.Apply final coat of BIN primer to areas and your ready to paint.

if it were me I would just mud over the peeled of paint and then sand down...before you paint hit that area first. The main thing is to sand the mud patch edges down so it blends in with the rest of the wall...

That doesn't Allways work,Sometimes it bubbles up around the patch if you don't use primer.I do around 40 wall paper strips a yr I've seen it all in that respect. It's more risky to just slap a little mud on it than properely taking the steps for a quality job.

That actually looks like you pulled the smooth face off the sheetrock. That would require a skim coat of mud and light sanding. Otherwise you will clearly see those areas if you just painted over them.

that is what I thought happened...like CAMAN stated skim coat sand and paint...you pulled the sheetrock paper face off.

I agree Jeremy that ibeofre painting this they need to do a blocker of some sort to make sure the glue residue doesn't show through or effect the paint but for pulled sheetrock paper can get by with mudding first sanding then doing the blocker.

either way the whole process is a long tedious job!! and add the blocker a very intoxicating time!! haha

Float out the patches a little.I would use a 12" blade .It takes practice and some skill to be able to make a flawless appearance.Don't be afraid to make it wide. The wider you float that mud out the better but since you don't do this all the time.Just do the best you can with small coats of mud until your satisfied.
