I can't say for sure, but it looks like a shaggy mane judging by the shape, the scale outside, the stringy interior. However, I've only seen them go to black inside when they mature. If you want to compare it to them, there are a bunch of shaggy mane in the grass surrounding the auto place on Hwy 59 south of L&M. Picked 8lbs or so this weekend there.

I can't say for sure, but it is probably a cousin to the shaggy, and while shabbily dressed in white, the color underneath the "scales" is not white. Do not see grass and do see wood. Possibly leaving it a c. variegata or an ebulbosus, maybe a quadrifidus ???? Stick or Matt might know which. Ok. Way to many big words for me this early in the morning wink

Thanks Matt. Googling Magpie Inkcap confirmed your ID("Trust, but verify" Ronald Reagan.)

Greg, thanks for the tip on the shaggies. Suddenly my wife thinks wild mushrooms are a good idea. I may go pick some for her.
