BLACKJACK
What do people think, is this going to a big enough cold front and NW wind to move ducks into central MN?? Debating whether I want to go out in the rain tomorrow morning!!
Kyle
Systems like this are notorious for moving birds around. It won't be the big push that starts the bulk of the migration, but I don't doubt there will be new birds buzzing around.
Bryce
Probably just enough to move the few remaining locals out.
CANOPY SAM
I'm thinking Bryce is right about his post. I've been eyeing the sky all day in the NW part of the state, and for the most part have still only seen the last remaining local birds bee-bopping around.Have seen a flight or two of what looked like maybe migrating birds? But these easily could have been from 30-60 miles north of me, and just jumping a bit further south. They were headed south, but weren't very high up, like migrating birds typically are.Still seeing primarily Wood Ducks and Teal milling up and down the river behind our house which is a pretty good indication that the migration hasn't even started. They're typically the first birds to start moving, and we've still got a pile of em' up here.Additionally, the wind that's forecast to blow up here (gusting up to 45 mph)(in pretty much all of Northwest MN and Northeast ND) is blowing from the Northeast, not the Northwest, which doesn't lend itself well to moving birds from Canada this way, but rather down into the Dakotas and Montana.Although this is a big powerful storm, I don't see it moving much down from Canada yet. It's coming up from the Southwest. We need tough weather to move down from Canada, and cold weather to settle in up there. Then the birds have no choice but to move.Even still, I believe I'll be sitting down river from the homestead tomorrow morning, wearing heavy winter/waterproof hunting gear, with a large thermos of hot coffee very nearby! coombia21
I know its not central mn, but I was out in central ND this morning and we had a lot of migrators out and about. We also did not see a "small" duck today. As of last weekend there were very few "small" ducks around, yes there are still some around but not like it was earlier in the year.
